Laptop and PC maker Acer has stepped into the Ultrabook market with the launch of the Aspire S3. This is the company’s first ever product from the Ultrabook class of laptop. Acer launched the product at the ongoing IFA 2011 show hosted in Berlin. Acer‘s version measures a mere 0.51 inches, which is thinner than the Macbook Air 13-inch at its thickest point (0.67 inches), and weighs a scant 3.1 pounds.
The Aspire S3 has a 13.3-inch, high definition, LED-backlit display. Its use of a Chiclet-style keyboard and glass clicking touchpad are consistent with those of the Toshiba Portege Z830 and Lenovo Ideapad U300s.
In terms of features, the bulk of the S3′s ports are located in the back, where you’ll find HDMI and two USBs. A memory card reader can be found on the right side, while the left side boasts a headphone jack. Like its Ultrabook brethren, the S3 lacks Ethernet, VGA, and of course, a built-in optical drive. Its battery is claimed to offer some 7 hours of usage between charges.
It also include cinema-style surround sound audio courtesy of Dolby Home Theater v4, an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam for high resolution video conferencing or online chat over an 802.11b/g/n wireless connection, Bluetooth 4.0, a 2-in-1 media card reader, a full-size HDMI out port and some USB ports.
Aspire S3 comes with 3 choices for the processor- Core i3, i5 or i7. In addition to that it gives users option to pick their preferred storage set up too. The available storage set up is – a 320 GB of 500 GB hard drive, or a 240 GB solid state disk drive. When it comes to the price aspect Acer said the Aspire S3 will cost $1,179 and it will be on sale soon.
