Mobile operator Sprint has added a new smartphone to its line which already consists of high-end smartphones. The new fourth generation smartphone is HTC EVO Shift. This is a WiMax-powered Android smartphone. Although HTC EVO Shift is the successor of HTC’s most famous smartphone, the HTC EVO 4G, it completely differs in design and size, as HTC EVO Shift comes with sliding QWERTY keyboard and a smaller display.

The EVo Shift 4G runs an 800 Mhz Qualcomm processor, runs on Android 2.2, a 5-megapixel camera, a camcorder that records 720p video, Wi-Fi 802.11n, the ability to work as a Wi-Fi hotspot, GPS and Bluetooth. One of the interesting features that come along HTC EVO Shift is its new MiFi. The MiFi will enable the new device to run Widgets and Web apps for users right on the device in the webpage they are using, not only that, it also acts as server for files stored on a MicroSD memory card. The MiFi is priced at $49.99 with a two year contract and will be available on February 27.When it comes to WLAN support, HTC EVO Shift offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiMAX 802.16 e (Wi-Fi router).

As per the data sheet from Sprint, it shows “HTC EVO Shift 4G also allows up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including a laptop, camera, music player, video player and any other Wi-Fi-enabled device, to enjoy the benefits of 3G/4G speeds on the go.”

The announcement of new smartphone from Sprint comes on time to challenge Verizon. Though Verizon is expected to introduce four smartphones designed to work on the 4G network, the move to introduce the cheapest 4G-enabled HTC EVO Shift may alter the prospects a bit for Verizon, as HTC EVO Shift has all the features compared to other high-end smartphones in the market.

When it comes to its price aspects, HTC EVO Shift is priced very competitively at $149, which is the cheapest price tag for any 4G smartphone in the market to date.
