Skype has just released an update to their Symbian app that adds support for new Symbian phones, including the Nokia N8, C7 and E5. This is the new version of the operating system running on Nokia’s current forerunners like the N8. Over the last decade, Skype has grown to be one of the leading online applications for people connectivity through which  millions of individuals and businesses use Skype to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages and share files with other Skype users.

This latest version of Skype for Symbian also allows users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi or 3G networks. For those with unlimited data or a good amount of data, this can be a good way to save money on international calls. It includes SILK, a high quality audio codec, that helps maintain clear audio quality even when your mobile network doesn’t scream at the speed of a few megabytes per second.

Skype has also updated the UI on the Symbian Skype version and has now made it a little more intuitive to use. It is now easier for Nokia users to add contacts as well as add a profile picture. So, what is missing is that Skype doesn’t have any video-chat feature on mobile phones. Once the Rubicon is crossed in that area too, Skype’s popularity will snowball again.
