Google Chrome Operating System is designed for various platforms ranging from desktops to wireless devices. The lack in the operating system is the unavailability of drivers that interface with printers to get hard copies of various documents. The solution to the LACK had already been planned by Google and is now working on a web service called Google Cloud Print.
The clumsy task of developing printer drivers for all various kinds of devices which in turn use web applications that are dissimilar in nature can be avoided by developing a universal solution. Chrome is basically designed to deal with only web applications, however the idea of Cloud Print will provide service to both web applications and traditional native applications like word processor, spreadsheets etc.. The idea of the service is to allow any application running on any platform to print anything on any printer.
Both native and web based applications can request for cloud print by using the APIs provided by Google Cloud Print. For custom print options the applications can use their own interface or in turn can use the common dialog print of Cloud Print. The cloud then uses an associated printer or a printer that is aware of the cloud to actually do the printing.
Associating and sharing a printer to a Google account is straightforward for Google Docs treats a printer as a FILE. On the other hand cloud-aware printers are registered with cloud/clouds which await printing jobs denying the requirement of any PC connection.
If you are a Chrome user, your print command on Chrome browser will interface with Google Cloud Print and upload the content to be printed to the cloud to carry out the print job. So happy printing, even on the move!
