The Android phones have so far had a clean run, given the fact that most of them are mid-to-high range smart phones. But a Droid 2, one of Motorola’s premium Android phones, left a Texas man with a rather scary experience.
Aron Embry had just finished a phone call on his brand new Droid 2, bought a couple of days ago, when he heard a loud unusual “pop“. Next, he felt something trickling down his neck and realized it was blood. “Once I got to the mirror and saw it, it was only then I kind of looked at my phone and realized that the screen had appeared to burst outward,” he said.
He first drove to his wife’s office to have pictures taken. Only after that did they call 911 and he was taken to the emergency room at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas. He received four stitches, but luckily for him the doctors assured that there was no hearing loss.
The Droid 2′s screen is made of Gorilla glass, supposed to be among the most rugged phone screens. And funnily enough, in spite of it being cracked up pretty bad, the phone seems to be working just fine. While Embry is mulling taking action against Motorola and Verizon, Motorola is trying to reach out to investigate on the case saying, “Motorola’s priority is, and always has been the safety of our customers…“. The battery, which is the culprit in most cell-phone bursting cases, was found to be doing just fine in this one.
