Now you can add a few more entries to the ‘why you are a fan of Google Chrome’ list. With its new release for all the platforms, Google Chrome 8 allows you to read PDF files within the browser itself, and also equips you with Google’s new Web Store framework. After first giving Adobe’s PDF files a standard by indexing their contents in the search engine, now Google is extending its support by including the PDF reader inside the Chrome.
This latest version comes with more than 800 bug fixes and stability improvements. It also contains Google’s 12 latest security fixes. The inbuilt PDF reader is, however, kept inside sandbox to wall it off from the major parts of the operating systems to avoid virus threats and other security reasons.
An awesome bit of news for web developers and others who share their interests in web applications is the inclusion of support for Google’s Web Store in this version. Though Google’s Web Store is not yet live, it should come into the picture in not many days from now. The Web Store is expected to be quite appealing for web development and Chrome gives its users access the easiest way possible.
Google offers special thanks to Aki Helin of OUSPG for his contribution to the development of the PDF feature. Sergey Glazunov and Marc Schoenefeld were also thanked for pointing out bugs during the development cycle. Besides, Google paid $1000 to each of the three high-risk vulnerability finders and $500 to each of the two medium-risk finders.
