Expanding its business role, Zynga Game Networks has declared purchasing Japanese social game maker Unoh. Zynga, a highly admired social game developer, flashed the news of the acquisition on Friday. The deal will help Zynga increase its market share in the fields of social game development and launching new mobile products, says a media analyst. Zynga has already expressed its desire to keep Unoh at the forefront when it launches its new mobile products in Japan.
After developing the ‘Farmville’-type popular games for Facebook and thereby establishing itself as one of the most successful game developer of recent times, Zynga wants to expand its business role. Unoh acquisition is the first step towards its ambition. Zynga’s new role in marketing mobile phone products in Japan post Unoh acquisition will be managed by a joint venture between Zynga Japan and SoftBank that runs a Japanese mobile phone subsidiary. Shintaro Yamada, Unoh’s founder and CEO, will head Zynga Japan’s mobile market.
Even though the Tokyo-based Unoh acquisition deal has been completed, no details of funds involved have found their way out yet. After establishment in 2001, Unoh was engaged in creating popular Japanese games such as Band Yarouyo!, Machitsuku!, and Kaizoku Chronicle before the Zynga takeover.
