Firefox 4 Beta 2 Released- Catchy New Features
Mozilla is on a roll this time. Hardly three weeks after web browsers got to feast their eyes upon the Firefox 4 Beta 1, a new version has already been released. Firefox 4 Beta 2 has been made available for download at the Mozilla website for Windows, Mac and Linux, in 24 different languages.
The new version has quite a few snazzy new features, including the Windows tabbed look in the Mac version as well. The “Make into App Tab” command has been included in the context menu, so that any of the tabs can be shrunken down to a favicon and accessed from the leftmost space on the tabs panel. Sure, Google Chrome users have seen something like this before, but what the heck?
Other added features include the CSS3 Transitions, retained layers and the XPCOM framework. Two features that made it into the list but will remain disabled in the beta version are the full WebGL support and an experimental Direct2D rendering backend for the Windows release. Surely, Firefox needs more testing time to completely get the hang of it before releasing it for every internet user.
Firefox developers have also released a video demonstrating the new beta release:
