The Aspire One D260 has found a younger sibling. Less than a month after Acer rolled out its first model at Computex, with a rather blatant branding emblazoned across the lid, it has slyly slid out the Aspire One D255 with a few modifications.
The Acer Aspire One D255 looks almost identical to its predecessor, with a few added colour options and a heavy discount on the shiny chrome factor. But if you were wishing to be a bit subtle about the brand of your netbook in public, you are in for some disappointment. The highly-conspicuous autograph on the top is not going away so soon.
Although very similar to the AO D260, the Aspire One D255 gets elevated in the ranks with its dual-Atom N550-core, each powering up the gadget at 1.5 GHz, and the first to appear in an Acer netbook ever. With a 512KB L2 cache, the CPU will support hyper threading to provide four simultaneous cores or threads for the OS.
The rest of the specifications seem to have been kept confidently intact. That includes the six-cell battery, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, up to 250 GB (with options) of hard disk space and Bluetooth. We also hope the AO D255 will take a cue from its senior and allow dual-boot of Android and Windows 7.
As for the user interface, the AO D255 will feature a 10.1-inch LED backlit display with a 1024 x 699 p resolution. The package also includes Intel GMA 31509 integrated graphics and up to 1 GB of DDR2 RAM.
For those considered with pricing, it is hard to guess right now. And so is the case with availability till further word gets out.
