The newest entry in the tablet business is going great guns. Some time after it started working on a Windows 7 tablet PC, LG has announced plans for an Android version as well. Looks like LG is in for a lot of Android-fulness this year.
Leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit to outrun rivals, most notably Samsung, LG has revealed plans for its new Google-centric tablet to be launched in Q4 2010. If all goes according to schedule, we might probably get our own Android slate PC before the coming winter knocks at our doors.
This announcement subtly demonstrates LG’s competence in the market, shooting off one product after another. But this can also be explained by the dwindling popularity of Windows 7 OS in tablets among consumers.
Along with the Android tablet PC news, we also get to hear that LG is pondering upon a fresh HD-capable Optimus Z in the same Q4. The Optimus Z SU950 will be updated to Android 2.2 and will have a slightly larger 3.8-inch display. The model will retain the earlier OMAP3630 CPU present in the DROID X. The phone will also be capable of HD quality video capture and incorporate DLNA support for wireless multimedia streaming.
The Optimus Q LU2300 is getting promoted as well, with LG preparing an Android 2.1 update for it in August this year. As for the tablet thing, LG has implied that it would have better specifications and capabilities than what currently exists in the market. Apple iPad, you should probably curb the complacence and look out for this one.
Lastly, about the minimal information, it is either LG’s love for secrecy or our incompetence in decoding Korean press releases, but we will keep updating when we can.
