Sony has let us in on more details of PlayStation Plus, with just a few days left before its scheduled June 29 launch. The subscription-based model for PlayStation Network has kept gamers in high suspense, revealing only the package costs until now $50 for a year and $18 for three months.
After the recent E3, we are a bit more knowledgeable about the scenario. Sony intends to provide Wipeout HD, PSP Minis and PS One Classics at launch. A full game trial of Infamous and monthly episodes of Qore will also be included for free in the package. The current free features on PlayStation Network will remain so.
In addition, free games will be available for download every month. However, when you terminate your subscription, you can wave the free games goodbye too. But only for a while if you plan to re-subscribe.
“If your subscription lapses and then you re-subscribe, the games you have already downloaded will reactivate, so you still have access to them,” Sony says. “Additionally, if you delete one of the titles from your PS3, but decide you want to get it back, then you can re-download from the PlayStation Plus section of the PSN Store if the game is still there, or, if the game has expired from the PlayStation Plus section of the PSN Store, you can simply search for it on PS Store and download it again at no extra cost.”
Premium members will receive up to 50 percent discount on PS3 titles. They will also receive themes, avatars and exclusive trials. Plus select demos and beta trials before they go public. Early subscribers will also own a full copy of LittleBigPlanet.
PlayStation Plus members will be allowed to try a limited period of full games before actually buying the full game. Justifying the cross-game voice chat features, Sony said, “Cross-game voice chat is a feature we know our passionate user base has asked for and we’ll continue to look at as a viable offering for the PlayStation Network”
