HP Tablet After Windows 7, Android Faces The Baton From HP Slate

HP seems to be having second thoughts about the Android tablet it planned on creating. So says All Things Digital, “HP’s Android slate has been delayed and won’t ship before the end of the year as planned.” Would it really be that surprising, considering that HP claims to be working on developing Windows 7 and webOS tablets simultaneously?

The culprit in this case seems to be hugely the Palm acquisition by HP, which has been followed by HP concentrating all its resources towards forming a webOS tablet. A few days ago, we even heard that the Windows 7 tablet project was being shelved as of now. It is only natural that the Android version follow suit.

Jim Burns from HP seems to have confirmed that the webOS plans indeed poured cold water over the other tablets when he said during the Palm acquisition conference call, “We’re going to increase R&D spending on webOS. And we are going to increase sales and marketing as well. We’re going to take this platform, which today exists for smartphones only, and make it much broader than that.”

They better be fast at this one, at least, considering that the Palm unit, codenamed Hurricane, has a possible fall launch date. Further reports even speculate on the more apparent possibility-a delayed launch for the Android slate, or a total cancellation. Darn! HP doesn’t seem overtly capable of handling three slates with different operating systems. Deep reflection is a must before anyone takes more on their plate than they can process.
