After Gaming, It’s The TV’s Turn To Get Interactive
I am positive that you have heard of Kinect. After all, it isn’t everyday that a futuristic, motion-sensing gaming console is created. With the same confidence though, I can affirm that you have never heard of PrimeSense.
PrimeSense is an established fables semiconductor company which was formed in 2005, and specializes in the area of sensory inputs for the consumer market. With time, PrimeSense has become an integral component of TVs, gaming consoles (starting with Kinect, of course), set-top boxes, PCs and more capable of natural interaction. Right from scene capturing, the company strives to provide a complete solution with scene analysis and concluding with unique user applications and experiences.
Last time you noted, PrimeSense joined hands with Microsoft to create the Kinect, under Project Natal, using its 3D machine vision technology. Now PrimeSense Vice President, Adi Berenson tells us that the company has signed deals to install PrimeSense inside HTPCs by this year’s end. If everything goes along according to plan, we will have our first gesture-controlled set-top box by summer 2011. Berenson further adds that “the end goal is to provide natural human control over TV-based media consumption.
The new product will incorporate 640 x 480 camera sensors to keep tab of the user’s position, but probably won’t include the motorized tilt functionality or voice recognition since these ideas originated from Microsoft’s factory.
Below is a video link where PrimeSense shows off their cool virtual interface technology so that you can control your TV with a flick of your fingers.
