Hackers Attack Reddit’s Gmail and Twitter Accounts
The hackers breaking into email accounts of the people isn’t some new security breach. Hacking has existed ever since the inception of the web and falling a prey to a similar glitch this time is the famous social bookmarking site Reddit, who just had their Gmail and Twitter accounts broken into by some cyber attackers.
The good news is that it was just a feedback email account so none of the user data and confidentiality have been compromised. The account for user feedback has now been changed to reddit@reddit.com. Here’s what Reddit blog has to say:
“We’re in contact with both google’s and twitter’s security team, and the site has not been broken into. All he’s done at this point is ruined everyone’s night. We don’t recycle passwords, and we don’t store passwords in the reddit email. No one’s account has been compromised. We don’t store any confidential information in that account; it is just for feedback email.”
As stated above, seems that Reddit’s Twitter account was also linked to the Gmail but yes things are under Reddit’s control now. Reddit had been using the gmail from the very beginning which it felt was an easiest way to interact and collect feedback from multiple users when it did not have its own mail servers. But with the recent hacker attack , Reddit finally had to give up on its old account that highlights the need of companies to get more vigilant about the security of their systems and employ new ways to stay protected.
