Taiwan’s AsusTek Computer Inc. has unveiled the Eee Pad (sounds familiar?) tablet computer at Computex 2010 in Taipei, Taiwan. Ever since the launch of the iPad, a slew of companies have launched tablet PCs including AsusTek’s touchscreen tablet, Eee Pad, which is available in 10- and 12-inch sizes. The 10-inch and 12-inch Eee Pad will be available for $399 to $449 respectively,  while the iPad starts at $499. The Eee pad is based on an Intel CULV Core 2 Duo processor,  has a capacitive touchscreen, a virtual keyboard, and lasts up to 10 hours.

Asus also unveiled the Eee Tablet, which is set to give the user the feel of writing on paper as one of the world’s most precise and sensitive digital note taking device. It has a 2450 dpi touch resolution screen and a built-in 2 megapixel camera to capture impeccable images. It also runs Flash by Adobe Systems, thereby allowing users to view YouTube and other video programs through the Internet.

The 10” Eee pad runs on Windows Embedded Compact 7, aiding a full-featured experience from a number of connected devices and cloud computing too. The 12-inch Eee Pad uses the Windows 7 Home Premium OS and doubles up as a multimedia player, e-reader, compact PC and Internet device. With a choice of character input options (an embedded virtual keyboard and a special docking station-cum-keyboard), over 10 hours of computing, and allows users to do a host of things including check their email and calendars, have video conferences, and process Microsoft Word and Excel documents – all at the same time.

The Eee pad, positioned as iPad’s competitor is set to hit the stands by Q1 2001. It will come with a keyboard docking station too, which will enable either of the two versions to turn into a PC.  The Eee Pad can be used to play media, display e-books, and surf the web too.
