Google launched an app store for the web yesterday at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco. The Chrome web store is an attempt to move people away from desktop based computing. Among various other announcement at the conference, Chrome web store is clearly a take on Apple’s app store. The app store translates the idea of purchasing through one click on to the web. The programmes and apps offered at the Chrome App Store would include tools and games catering to business and individuals alike.

Though the apps would be available on different browser independently based on how they are programmed, they will be accessible in web store through Google’s web browser, Chrome.  Users will also be access it through Google’s operating system which would be launched later this year however all major platforms will be able to support the Web Store including Windows, Linux, Mac. The store is a good welcome preparation for Chrome OS as it would generate interest in the developers community as well as end users.

The Chrome Web Store will feature both free and paid apps and like any other app store, developers would be able to sell their apps using the payment gateway. Even the mobile app store will be available on the web and support will be provided in 40 languages and 70 countries.

Google emphasized on the fact that apps need to be consistent regardless of different platforms and there was an emerging need for developing apps and websites faster. Google Wave launched at I/O 2009, which was only by invitation was also made public yesterday.
