hdx Review HD Digitech HDX 1000

The HDX 1000 is a new NMT media player. Launched after the successful HDX 900, this model uses the current hardware specifications along with reduced expenses for the units. The HDX 1000 is comes with a HDMI 1.3a and it is able of passing through the very latest HD digital audio format such as Dolby TrueHD , DTS-HD HR, DTS-HD MA and Dolby Digital Plus. A diskless HDX-1000 is priced for around £190.

Other than the usual enhancements provided by its competitors, it has included both Coaxial and Optical audio along with a 3 in 1 Card reader (Memory Stick, MMC, SDHC). This enables direct access to music and photo files. It is a believer in efficiency for the purpose of home entertainment.

Unlike the other networkable boxes in the market, its construction is fabulous. It is styled just like the Mac Mini and it is seen to feature a heavy aluminium alloy case. This helps in containing the hard drive operational noise.

The HD Digitech HDX-1000 is designed to and hooks-up directly from any network to users TV or AV receiver, through the legacy or HDMI connections. It usually comes without a hard drive but its installation is a rather simple operation.

If the user has a media connected on his home network this unit will find it. It is found to run in different forms like SMB, DLNA, uPnP. This means it is visible to everything that is connected. Without any effort, the user can access it via a Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3 and any other clients.

Installation is also a simple process. The moment the HDX goes online it immediately lists all the available workgroups and finds all the attached devices using AutoSMB. While compared to the Manual SMB counterparts (like the TiVX M-6500A), its setup and use is seems effortless.

The unit is seen to handle almost all the file formats. Ranging from MP3s – FLAC, even the video formats like MPEG-2, MPEG-4, 720p MKVs and DivX. Users can purchase a pre-fitted model for a price £270 along with 1TB storage if they don’t wish to manually fit the extra space.

The HDX can in fact, be considered as a set-top box for providing internet TV services. It’s build quality is simply superb and functionality supreme. It’s overall performance is rated as excellent.
