Ustream’s Mobile Video Broadcasting Comes To Android
Google’s Android platform is introducing a program named Ustream. Ustream is a mobile-streaming application which helps us to transmit video from your phone. The application is available in the Android Market. Other than Ustream, there are many other options available for streaming video clips on Android. Qik introduced their version in June, 2009. The way this Ustream application handles latency is the main highlight.
The CEO, John Ham said that Ustream is using a low-latency connection. It can optimize the latency at both server and client sides to a minimum. The lag will not accumulate which is quite useful while we interact with viewers through various community features of the application. While testing, it showed a lag of only 3 seconds over a 3 G connection. There are many features which distinguishes Ustream from other applications. While broadcasting, it allows us to poll views live. It supports Twitter chat and Ustream-integrated chat. We can perform local recording which improves the video quality.
Ustream for Android helps the account holder to ‘overtake’ a currently-broadcasting stream. For example, the mobile application could take over the Camera stream while we are on the go because of some breaking news. As we finish mobile broadcast, the feed can revert to the camera. Ustream offers some applications for iPhones, too. We cannot broadcast these videos straight to the web because Apple restricted this functionality.
