Fwix Launches API For Real-Time Local News
Fwix is a startup which is offering a series of regional news which will get updated in real-time. They recently announced that they closed a $2.75 million funding round in 2008. BlueRun Ventures, who led this funding, belatedly announced a $2.75 million funding round it closed last year. Darian Shirazi, the CEO of Fwix says that a large part of the money still remains since the termination of the last round.
The company will launch a new ‘Wire’ API to allow the third parties in integrating the news updates and applications to their sites. The concept behind this startup is to aggregate blog posts and news articles related to a locality. The site promotes articles related to more than 80 cities of Canada and USA. Fwix will collect blogs and news sources related to each city. Using automated algorithms, they will determine when the other data become relevant.
Fwix was launched in August and has undergone noticeable changes. Since its introduction, the site got modified and made recent strides for getting distribution. It has a widget to help the bloggers to embed Fwix’s regional news feeds into own sites. This widget network has more than 9 million different visitors a month. According to Shirazi, their latest API is on private beta in sites like RawStory and Weather Underground.
