Though it is two weeks early, many US based iPhone users reported that their phones have the ability to send and receive MMS messages now. MMS messages include videos and images. The obstacle was AT&T, with ambiguities in the past that its network could manage the load. It is surprising that AT&T appears to have brought the MMS feature to the iPhone sooner than expected. Previously they were working to launch it on September 25th. The news was reported by way of Consumerist, on Mediaite. Now, it got confirmed by a flurry of Tweets. This will be a welcome gift to customers who felt AT&T was dragging its step on the functionality.
On September 3rd, AT&T announced that they will roll out a software update that can boost support for MMS messages for iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3G customers by September 25. One among the popular complaints from iPhone customers is the lack of MMS support. For a revolutionary phone like iPhone, such a standard would be readily supported. Though Apple added MMS support for its 3.0 software in June 2009, the one caveat was “if your carrier supports it.”
According to AT&T, the main reason for the delay is mass data usage. Anyways, the answer for the question, “which users will get access first? “is yet unknown.
