We cannot live without three things in today’s life – air, water and without checking our email inbox. That is why Apple has come up with this new app called GPush that will push GMail. The application utilizes Apple’s Push Notifications system which was brought in with the iPhone 3.0 firmware update. It also presents you with notifications so that you know when there’s something to be read in your inbox. Pushing an email means allowing an email to come to the phone without the user having to specifically call up the server (which is known as pull). All this gibberish basically means that you can get your message instantly rather than setting your phone to check for messages at regular intervals.

The new application not only gives you (almost) real-time pushed email, but also presents you with notifications as well, so you’ll know when there’s something to be read in your inbox. Moreover there will be shortcut keys to perform actions like checking inbox and composing mail. So to go to the inbox all you will have to do is press ‘u’ and n to compose new mail.

GPush displays a red icon badge when you get new mail along with a chime and semi transparent alert window that displays the sender’s name and the subject of the email. However the app is being criticized that it has very little features since all it does is collect your log in information and registers your credentials. It also has many problems since many messages get lagged or weren’t passed down from the server in the first place. Experts say that the app could give problems if the phone frequently switches between Wi-Fi and 3G data and loses the data connection. During this time GPush will queue the new messages for notifications and then send the most recent notification when the iPhone regains its service. GPush is available now in the iTunes store for just 99 cents.
