Transformations in the field on IT are fast, and if you don’t see it coming, you will be left behind. The iPhone kick started the Smartphone revolution, a phone which can be an entertainer as well as worker. The iPhone iCalender can be now synced with your Google Calendar (Gcalender) with CALDAV support without any third party support.

The CALDAV support will open a flood gates between syncing business users and web apps. It is not very simple, but we will guide step by step using Sunbird application:

  1. Use https url for the following steps
  2. Open the Sunbird application and select File > New Calendar.
  3. Select On the Network and then click Next.
  4. Select the CalDAV format option.
  5. In the Location field, enter [ https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/ [ your Google Calendar ID ] /events ] and click Next.
  6. Enter a name and select a colour for your calendar.
  7. In the pop-up screen, enter the following information

Username: This is the complete email address you use with Google Calendar (including the part after the @ sign). If you’re using Google Apps, be sure to enter your Google Apps email address.
Password: This is the password you use to sign in to Google Calendar

  1. Click OK.

Your Google Calendar for your primary calendar is your email address, but for all other calendars the Calendar ID will be in the form of [long string of characters]@group.calendar.google.com. You can get the Calendar ID by clicking the down arrow next to your calendar at calendar.google.com and selecting ‘Calendar Settings’.

Your Google Calendar will now appear in the Calendar tab of Mozilla Sunbird. The Sunbird will sync automatically any changes to and from Google Calendar just like that!

For those who do not have sunbird (install it then), there is another way to sync your calendars. This method is compatible if your firmware is version 3.0 or above. To check your version go to Settings > General > About > Version on your iPhone or iPod Touch device. If your firmware is not upgraded, then you can upgrade it from http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

After you have upgraded, follow the instructions given below:

  1. Open the Settings application on your device’s home screen.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Select Add Account…
  4. Select Other.
  5. Select Add CalDAV Account.
  6. Enter your account information:
    • In the Server field, enter [ google.com ]
    • In the Username field, enter your full Google Account email address.
    • In the Password field, enter your Google Account password.
    • In the Description field, enter the name you’d like to appear on the account.
  7. Select Next at the top of your screen.

Alas! Your calendar application has a partner. It will sync with your Google calendar as soon as it has internet connectivity. The brains in Google are still trying to work out multiple calendar sync, and that will be out soon (They are smart!).
