HOAP3
Fujitsu Automations new addition is HOAP3 – a 60 cm tall humanoid robot HOAP3 is a biped robot which weighs around 8.8kgs. It can perform a number of varied tasks, which includes playing soccer, whip eggs, and grate cheese. Sensors including accelerometers, grip sensors, pressure sensors can be controlled via wired of wireless LAN. Rate gyros, infra-red range finder ,Cameras, microphone, speaker, expression LED and also sensors for image recognition have been additionally added hence this humanoid can process and act on sound and visual images. This robot has 28 motorized articulations which provide it a great amount of flexibility. The whole Fujitsu Unit is based on RTLinux, a completely open source software platform, this in turn would enable researchers to evaluate and study the new developments in HOAP3. This software platform will further help to integrate the work already done on Linux platform. HOAP3 doesn’t allow prior validation for its simulators hence its growth and scope for use and advancement can be quite rapid. Along with simplicity in design this robot has wireless communication link to handle the tele operation .All these features make is valuable for integration and collaboration with other robots or robotic platforms. A unique feature of this robot is that instead of merely memorizing the functions and movements assigned it generalizes and categorizes these actions and thus uses them accordingly and in appropriate situations. Audio and image recognition functions makes it viable in human communications related research and also hand eye coordination studies.
