First, you have to find out for yourself a theme you are satisfied with. OTA provides the easiest means to install themes on BlackBerry. All you have to do is to point the phone’s browser to a file. The BlackBerry will download and install directly the theme from the given location.  Let us try installing the Custom Silver theme using Over the Air Method. Remember you can install any theme you like through this method. The only catch is to point the browser to the correct URL. The theme we are looking for is available at http://tinyurl.com/dcxq22/. Point the phone browser to the URL and you will be asked to download com_plazmic_theme_Silver.jad. Download it .Themes being small files are fast to download. On successful completion of the download, the installation should begin automatically. If it doesn’t click the “Install” button to begin the installation of the theme. Click “OK” on the popup notifying you of the completion of installation. The theme is now installed on your phone. To use the theme, navigate to the themes folder of your phone and select the theme that you just installed. And voila, your phone is updated with a brand new, shiny theme.

Instructions for Manual Install of themes

Manual installation of themes is not with the same ease as of the OTA installation. You have to download the theme file, which usually comes as a compressed zip archive, to your PC. Extract the zip file to a location of your choice. After making sure that your BlackBerry is connected to the PC, launch the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and select the “Application Loader” from the “Main Menu”. Open the “Device Application Selection List” by clicking on “Start” from the “Add/Remove Section”. Click on “Browse” and navigate to the location where you saved the extracted contents from your theme. Select the theme file and click on “Open”. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager will check the file for incompatabilities and verify the integrity of the file. On successful completion of the tests, the theme file will be listed in the “Device Application Selection List”. Make sure that the checkbox near the file is ticked and it lists “Install” under Actions. Proceed by clicking on the “Next” Button. A summary box will be presented identifying the new theme as the software to be installed on your BlackBerry. Click on “Finish” to complete the installation. After the installation, you can disconnect the BlackBerry. Select your newly installed them from the “Themes” menu to see it in action.
