Blackberry Launches App Store.
Blackberry launches an app store for their users to download applications to their blackberry devices. Apple were the first company who did this. Although similar to apple’s app store there are many unique features in the blackberry app store. Buying apps with paypal is notable feature in it.
“It’s a one-stop device shop,” Co-Chief Executive Mike Lazaridis said in a keynote address at the CTIA Wireless trade show on Wednesday.
RIM also said it expects about 1,000 applications to be posted by partners this week. Where apple app store offers more than 10,000 applications. There are many applications that costs for free or few dollars in both stores.
“Everyone is racing to catch up with Apple,” said Maribel Lopez, chief executive of telecom research firm Lopez Research. But “having an app store isn’t a guarantee of millions of downloads.”
Co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie said RIM is working with wireless carriers to make it possible for users to pay for the applications through their monthly cellphone bills.
“It’s a long-term revenue thing, but the most important thing is to catalyze the developer community and developer environment,” said Mr. Balsillie, adding that the store will help drive sales of BlackBerrys.
Lets wait and see if this launch can compete against the Apple’s App Store.
